I analysed data (1970-2005) of three stations for detecting trend in extreme temperature and precipitation indices located in Sutlej Basin, N-W Himalayan Region India. I observed increase in frequency and intensity of extreme precipitation indices (Max 1-day precipitation amount,Max 5-day precipitation amount,Very wet days, Extremely wet days, Simple daily intensity index) for station located in higher altitude. However, fall in frequency of wet days were observed for low lying stations in the basin.
Besides, i would like to share a horrible event which I witnessed last year (14-23 June 2013) during my study visit at National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee in Uttarakhand. This time India saw its worst natural calamities after 2004 tsunami. Flooding triggered by heavy rainfall caused death of 5700 people and loss of 30 billion (INR) in Uttarakhand state of India.
