A massive dust storm occurred Tehran on Monday afternoon 12 jun 2014, killing at least four people and creating a strange aspect in Tehran. Winds reached 110 kmh, sent people scrambling for cover and cut off electricity for nearly 50,000 homes.

I would like to share with you my "first love" in terms of scientific interest (namely, my undergraduate thesis) : Flash Floods in Malta.

The increasing frequency of occurrence of extreme weather events especially drought and flooding are the major climate hazards in Ethiopia. As agriculture dominated economy droughts have had determinant role in the lively of our society. Flooding is also becoming a high risk to the low land settlers in the Southern parts of our country. The 1973 and 1984-85 famines are the notable drought incidences which demolished the lives of millions. Recent flooding incidences such as the Wabe Shabele flooding (November 18, 2008) have forced thousands of people to leave their homes and properties.




Incidences of desperate hearts like these demand us to seek for an efficient early warning system.
