Hi to everyone!
My name is Luca Cenci and I am doing the PhD in Weather Related Risk at the UME (Understanding and Managing Extremes) School, IUSS (Institute for Advanced Study ), Pavia in Italy in collaboration with CIMA Research Foundation (Italy). I have undergraduate degree in “Coordination of the civil protection activities” from the University of Perugia (Italy) and a master degree in “Applied Geology and GeoTechnologies” from the University of Siena (Italy); therefore I have always studied Earth sciences, natural hazards and disaster management. The aim of my current research is to extract soil moisture maps from microwave remotely sensed data by means of SAR analyses and to assimilate them within a continuous hydrological model in order to better mitigate floods droughts (but also landslides and wildfires). When I first I heard about the DRIHM project I was fascinated about the concept and the potentialities of the hydrometeorological chain. Consequently, I would like to participate to the DRIHM Summer School to improve my hydrological modelling skills and knowledge and to learn more about meteorological modelling. I hope that all of this will help me in enhancing and completing my PhD research and my personal growth as researcher.
With my kindest regards,
Luca

Hello all,

I am Muntasir Abdalla Ibrahim, PhD candidate from Sudan registered at University of Khartoum, and at the same time I am a lecturer at University of Blue Nile in Sudan since 2005. In 2012 I was selected as associate member of the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. Currently, my research is focused on the study of the association of air pollution levels to atmospheric weather regimes over Europe.

Since Sudan is located in hydro-meteorological region, extreme events such as dust and drought in the North part of Sudan, and the impact of heavy rains, which cause flooding in the Central and South part of Sudan, are an important and interesting topics for scientific research and publications. Therefore, attending this school will fit my knowledge about extreme events, which will reflect positively in my future study and research since now I have a collaboration with the Sudan Meteorological Authority to arrange for publications in the extreme events for Sudan. Strength my knowledge in hydrological models, to be involved in the scientific network, and to collaborate with DRIHM project in future publication achievements for my country, if possible, are the main objectives to participate in this useful summer school.

Honestly, I have a little experience in using hydrological models. I only gained knowledge in using CHYM hydrological model during my participating in the 2nd Workshop on Water Resources in Developing Countries: Planning and Management in a Climate Change Scenario, at ICTP last May 2013.

With my best regards,

Muntasir

Hi everybody:
I am Haileselassie G.Mariam from Ethiopia.Currently I am a PhD student in Addis Ababa University ( Ethiopia ),working my dissertation on “Coupling Downscaled GCM Simulations and Hydrological ModelsEllowto determine Impacts of Climate Change and Variability on the Surface Water resource Potential of Abay basin-Ethiopia”. I have worked for the National Meteorological Agency of Ethiopia as a meteorologist.

My intention to participate in the DRIHM summer school 2014 is to get practical experience on integration of meteorological and hydrological models and to gain computational skills on processing and interpretation of hydro-meteorological data which are crucial components for my research work. Extreme weather events are the most catastrophic weather phenomenon and hence require sound scientific understanding for early warning. My experience on using integrated hydro-meteorological doesn’t go beyond using the return periods.

With kind regards!

Dear All,

Your presentations are very interesting and background stories are rich.
We will collect all of them and include in the summary document of the DRIHM school 2014.

Thank you very much for your active participation!

Sincerely,
Tatiana Bedrina

Dear friends,
I am Nasim from Iran. I am a Ph.D student in meteorology in Atmospheric Science & Meteorological Research Center(ASMERC). My thesis is about Synoptical and dynamical study of dust storms and simulation on south west of Iran with modeling methods such as WRF and RegCM.I worked on dust and snow with WRF model and object oriented method on precipitation. My project study dust storm and sand storm and their effects on west and south west of Iran.Iran is part of arid and semi arid climate and there are large deserts around it, so every year several dust storms occurred which cause hard damages and disturb human activities.
Attending in DRHIM summer school would be very great opportunity for me to know about WRF and RIBS. Also I will find new friends all around the world that they work on these models. So it will be very exciting and helpful for whole of my life.
