my name is Julia Palamarchuk (Odessa, Ukraine). During my early scientist carrier I work with numerical weather prediction systems. I am combining operational duties at Black and Azov Meteorological Centre with research activity at Odessa State Environmental University. Last autumn I have successfully submitted the PhD Thesis devoted to estimating a model error growth rate and forecast sensitivity to model formulations. The MM5 model was used as a working tool in my research process. Now we are dealing with HARMONIE weather forecast model (in research purposes only).

There are a couple of reasons for my interest to attend the DRIHM Summer School.
In Ukraine we have the regular flood events in the Carpathian and Danube delta regions. However, a multi-model approach for hydrological forecasting is still behind the operational forecast in Ukraine. Being involved into operational duties I'd like to extend my knowledge and understanding of state-of-the-art technologies of a modelling chain (preparing and issuing hydrological and meteorological forecasts).
Unfortunately, the number of international level events for young scientists devoted to interactions between the weather and hydrological models is very limited in Ukraine.
I'm sure the participation in the DRIHM Summer School would be Extremely useful for me!

We all have the same desire to participate in DRIHM summer school 2014.

The training theme is of a special relevance to my professional goals and career objectives, and therefore I would highly appreciate to be given an opportunity to attend this seminar gathering keen participants.

My name is María José Cordobilla-Cascales, I am a PhD student in the Geographical Science and working with the Climatology Group at University of Barcelona, in Catalonia (Spain). And volunteer at the Catalan Association of Meteorology (ACAM), non-profit association, whose main objective to support and promote educational activities and deepening of meteorology and climatology, with special interest in Catalonia but not exclusively.

My PhD project is about Hydro-Meteorological analysis in Catalonia, I would like to improve my knowledge about this important subject by attending this course which will add a special value to my career, and which will show me a new way of hydro-meteorological research and all the new tools available.

As a special added value of this event I find the opportunity to network with other students and professional from the community, which is an exceptional opportunity for horizontal exchange of experience. I perceive this also as an occasion to familiarize with good practices as a channel for my personal development.

A quick update that is hopefully of interest both for the lucky participants soon travelling to DRIHM summer school and also for the many, many skilled and motivated applicants we couldn't accommodate this time:

The local organisers have made arrangements that will allow recording and publishing of the lectures on the UPM youtube channel (www.youtube.com/user/UPM). The videos should be available few weeks after the Summer school, but subscribing already now ensures that you won't miss them!

We will naturally announce the availability of the videos on the DRIHM website and on the User Forum, and will hopefully have announcements of future events (e.g. DRIHM and DRIHM2US final events) fairly soon, too.

My name is Liljana Lata, and I am a PhD candidate in Environment Sciences, working as researcher in Institute of Geosciences, Energy, Water and Environment (IGEWE), Polytechnic University of Tirana (UPT). Responsible for: - Environmental Impact Assessment Research for different projects that influence in public health. - Teacher at UPT, Civil Engineering Faculty on subjects: “Environment Protection” and “Fluid Mechanics”. - Operator at the “National Centre for Forecast and Monitoring of Natural Risks” also, at IGEWE.
The national centre provides an every-day research and information service for Albanian Directory of Civil Protection in Ministry of Interior. The centre has been created from cooperation between the Government of Albania and italian CIMA Foundation. The center issues on a daily basis a Forest Fires Warning Bulletin during the summer and a Meteorological Warning Bulletin during the wet seasons.
I am very interested in participating in the 2014 Summer School on Hydrometeorological modeling so than, I can better contribute in the national center above-mentioned in providing an improved product every day, through:

• Introducing me with a new way of doing hydrometeorological research at European scale, and giving the opportunity to interactively learn about different models, post-processing tools and data,
• It could be an excellent opportunity for me to become an active member of the DRIHM Virtual Research Community and interact with scientists with similar interests across Europe.
