TOPIC: B2Bshare - persistent tags for the long tail

B2Bshare - persistent tags for the long tail 10 years 2 months ago #514

EUDAT has launched a service for storing different kinds of open data (data sets, videos, images etc.) and making it taggable and accessible using persistent identifiers. The service is open for European projects (such as DRIHM), organisations and individuals (citizen scientists).

At the moment the service is free to use with quota defined roughly as "within reason, 2GB at the time". For more information, please see:

Thanks for this link! This seems really interesting. I'll try to see if our meteonetwork.it colleagues would be interested.

Speak of the devil - just spotted this tweet :)

Apparently BitBucket offers unlimited number of collaborators for academics, however I wonder how big datasets have been hosted there in practice? And how do the features of BitBucket/GitHub differ from b2bshare?

Dear Matti,

first of all, I would apologize for my delay.

Then, I tried to investigate the platform you proposed and I think that, considering a proper target (researcher, ph.d students, etc.), it would be great with particular regards to the analysis of data. I mean that having the possibility to share data (instead of getting crazy to download them from several providers) would allow a more effective work.

It would be great if you could describe the platform a little more in deep for us: in particular, I'd be really happy to know how do you think it could differ from other existing ones.

Furthermore, it would be really interesting if you could describe an example of case study, so that (even if it's not our specific domain) we can better understand the features of the B2Share.

Many thanks in advance.

Dear Adriano,

I think you touched upon one of the major benefits that a large-scale adoption of a service like B2Bshare could have - all the data (conceptually) in the same "place", unified access methods, common sustainability model (serving scientists is the core business of the providers involved, not an add-on).

Unfortunately I haven't tried the service myself, but I'll try to see if I could get someone from EUDAT to comment.
